1) A spirit or intelligence of something - be it person, place, group, race, country, astronomical body, or any other thing. Examples are Genius Loci (spirit of a place) and Roma (Personification of Rome as a Goddess).

2) The Shade of an advanced Adept that can maintain a Fila to its Spirit and continue the work of its Will after death. The Nine often function as Deified Genii in this way, and still work in service of Babalon beyond death. See Shade.
