A Mystery School is an institution that teaches esoteric and magical wisdom in a direct and experiential way. This wisdom is based on a core set of philosophies and spiritual symbols that guides the student so that they may directly contact their own spirituality and divinity within themselves. A Mystery School is structured with a series of Initiations with corresponding teachings that must be mastered by the student before moving on to the next Initiation. These initiation Cycles, or Degrees, increase the student’s spiritual awareness and powers on an inner level, increasing their capacity and awareness in gradual steps. A Mystery School is never religious in attitude. A religion acts as an authority towards its adherents. Religions have Priests who mediate between some type of Divinity and the worshipper. The Priests use Dogma in order to guide and control the worshippers life and interaction with Divinity. Spiritual Institutions like Mystery Schools put the student into direct personal contact with divinity on an internal, spiritual level. Teachers or “Masters” are present to help the aspiring student find their own way and relationship with this internal divinity, but in no way are there religious Priests who mediate between “divinity” and the student. This is the main difference between Spirituality and a Religion. A Mystery School effects direct spiritual and magical experience in the student, empowering them over time with the same abilities as the Teachers or Masters. This experiential method is not merely mental speculation, theory or philosophical enquiry as is found in systems of Philosophy, or social and political movements. A Mystery School contains a magical link to divinity through which teachings and communications flow in a direct manner. The transformation that this process enables is not merely a mental exercise or growth of the mind, but a complete, all encompassing process of individual spiritual evolution and empowerment.
